It's been a couple of weeks now, and I find the experience of having a new name rather interesting. Since it's not a legal name change, anything financial, governmental, or parental still gets "Kevin." Since it's an ordained name, anything religious, center-related or priestly gets "Shodhin." I'm waiting for the day to answer the phone as Shodhin and be asked to connect the caller to Kevin.
In our lives we are never simply one. We answer to rank, status, profession and social titles, not all of which can happily coexist in the same respect at the same time. Nothing new, all in all. So why does this name feel so different?
